Preventing Health Issues Ahead
According to a popular saying, ‘prevention is better than cure.’ When it comes to health issues, minimising the chances of any problems arising is important.
This is when different factors in our everyday lives come into the equation. These all play an important role in our overall health and well-being. Without these factors working together, the door to suffering from several health issues is open.
The keys to maintaining good health are;
– A balanced diet
– Getting exercise
– Drinking enough water
– Access to fresh air and sunlight
– Good sleep patterns
– Limiting stress and worries
Then there are the more subtle issues related to your posture and the blood flow through your body.
It’s best to look at all these different factors and see the effect of how they work together can also show the dangers of what happens when they work against each other.
Eating, Exercise and Sleep
There has been in-depth research and constant discussion about the importance of a healthy diet and exercise regime. To this day, people still tend to ignore certain aspects of diet and exercise or do too little or even too much of one or the other.
Maintaining a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meat, unprocessed foods and minimal saturated fats and sugars is not as difficult as you might think. It is often down to the struggle of maintaining self-discipline.
This discipline is tested by factors such as the constant advertising of highly processed foods and their attraction as being cheaper than fresh food, lasting longer and being high in sugar content which all contribute to their appeal.
Having a sedentary lifestyle, such as constantly sitting at a desk or computer, is not ideal for the human body. This is when the amount of exercise a person gets throughout the day plays a vital role in their overall health. So too, does the amount of sleep someone gets, and the quality of that sleep is just as important.
The adverse effects of technology
While some would argue that technology is something of a saviour to people’s lives in the modern era, there are many dangerous side effects in its widespread use.
Having the often addictive effects of mobile phones, laptops and other computer devices invading our day to day lives means that we are exposing ourselves to hours of blue light from screens. A number of studies show that looking at screens can interfere with the production of melatonin, which is the chemical responsible for helping you fall asleep.
This interruption to your natural circadian pattern of sleep can contribute to both health and mental problems.
Overeating and overconsumption
Overeating is a serious issue right across the world. The rise in obesity and subsequent health problems shows no signs of slowing. World Health Organisation (WHO) report indicates that obesity worldwide has nearly tripled since 1975.
The added problem with obese and morbidly obese people is that when their health issues become one where mobility is a key factor in their care, special equipment is required for simple tasks such as getting in and out of bed. These bariatric devices are needed in hospital settings, Aged Care and even in individual homes.
Preventing the health problem of heavy weight gain is key to preventing that individual from progressing to the point of obesity.
Rather than hunger being the number one issue in the world today, it is overeating that is now the highest priority of concern.
Posture and performance
It makes sense to see that how we carry ourselves has a direct effect on our well-being. A stooped posture or difficulty sitting straight now can cause problems in later years.
When we are seated, it is more often than not that our shoulders, neck and back are forced into an unnatural position. This can be from the position of the chair and either desk or table being at different heights. It is then when we are causing our bodies unnecessary strain and discomfort.
This is why the invention of ergonomic furniture was a major breakthrough in how we sit and how we work.
In the modern Australian office, you will no longer be surprised to find the top ergonomic office chairs Australia has on offer. Ergonomic products have a significant role to play in the health, productivity and performance of staff. The choice of home office chairs also reflects that.
Health in the healthcare industry
It may seem ironic that healthcare facilities are not always the healthiest place for staff and patients.
Even something as fundamental as quality waiting room chairs can be overlooked as a priority when access to a safe, secure and comfortable seat is a priority.
In recent years, especially following the Covid 19 pandemic, the importance of infection control procedures in hospital environments is paramount.
When someone is admitted to a care facility, they are expecting a level of professional care that will ensure their well-being, safety and improve their chances of a full recovery.
Even in a hospital, there are dangers that threaten the safety of patients and staff that the dangers of slipping and the frequency of falls illustrate.
For a patient who is already medicated and is not able to balance without support, it is advised that special fall prevention measures like installing a bed alarm be considered.
This not only helps the patient avoid injury, but it also helps the care staff in their ability to provide the best in professional care.
It is one thing to be able to do all the things you can in order to remain healthy, but what about those times when your health and well-being depend on others? This is where matters such as preventing falls (especially in the elderly) are crucial to gaining the best possible outcomes.
Starting your healthy future today
There is every reason to take good care of yourself now and make sure that you live a healthier life in the future. It is not as difficult as you may think and only relies on your ability to stay committed.
Whether it’s changing your daily habits and finding ways to eat a well-balanced diet and get all the benefits of fresh fruit and vegetables or making sure that you exercise regularly, it is all possible.
With the right outlook, taking professional advice where necessary and making a point to take things one day at a time, you can turn your life around and be someone who is living life to the fullest.
